“Business presentation for creating trademark/design to reinforce understanding of intellectual property”

In order to broaden public understanding of the importance and business purpose of trademark/design, a core element of national competitiveness, KIPO (Commissioner: JUN, Sang Woo) is planning to open a “Business Presentation on Creating Trademark/Design” in the Grand Ball Room of the Ritz Carlton Hotel on August 25th, 2006.
This presentation will include specific explanations on each project promoted by KIPO to create trademark/design, such as the Design Map Development Project, 2006 Trademark/Design Exhibition, and the Project to Support the Patent of University Student’s Design. The presentation will also include Q&A opportunities for participatants and discussion time for future development.

An estimated 200 experts from academic fields, commercial industries, patent lawyer’s offices, and governmental agencies related to trademark/design are expected to participate in this presentation and suggest various opinions on creating trademark/design businesses, such as developing a design map.

Among the projects that will be covered in the presentation, the “Design Map Development Project” is a project to provide related companies with information on specific design trends, changes in market/product, and similarity/difference between products, that will reinforce national competitiveness in design. By suggesting a better direction for design development, this project is aimed at supporting the creation of new designs that can satisfy the market.

Launched for the first time by KIPO this year, “2006 Trademark/Design Exhibition” will focus on emphasizing the importance of trademark/design by defining the concept of trademark/design, explaining the procedure of trademark/design registration, and telling the story about intellectual properties that can be observed in everyday life. The purpose of this exhibition is to increase public awareness towards trademark/design and its importance.

A subject for nationwide university students majoring in design, as well as for working designers, “Project to Support the Patent of University Student’s Design” will provide education on the design protection system and increase understanding of design rights. Also, it will guide and promote design works created in school/field to win appropriate patents.

KIPO is expecting this presentation be an opportunity where public participation related to creating trademark/design businesses can increase.
